In the spirit of #TBT here is a devotional written way back in 2006 by my friend and mentor Kathi Macias which would definitely serve as a reminder to our current political situation.

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence (1 Tim. 2:1).”

It’s been a tough couple of weeks, hasn’t it? First the heartbreaking revelation of Ted Haggard’s situation, and now the stunning results of Tuesday’s elections. True, the “out with the incumbents and in with the replacements” sweep had been predicted by the political pundits and the media moguls, but to see the reality of it reflected in the Congressional change of power is sobering.

And yet, in terms of eternity, has anything really changed? Isn’t it still true that our citizenship is in heaven and not here on earth? Isn’t it still true that Jesus is the same “yesterday, today, and forever”? Isn’t it still true that He will never leave or forsake us? Isn’t it still true that we are called as believers to pray for those in authority, regardless of their political persuasion? And isn’t it still true that we have been called as scribes to “write the vision…and make it plain”?

Yes—to all of the above. As a founding member of the Presidential Prayer Team, I must continue to pray for our President, his family, his advisors, and all those who work and serve with him in the different branches of our government. As one who has been gifted and called and blessed by God to write and speak forth His Word and His message with boldness and clarity, I must continue to seek Him for opportunity to do so, and for wisdom and anointing to do so with His love and His power.

Nothing has changed, beloved. “Though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea,” we know that our God reigns. And so we will be faithful to fulfill the ministry to which He has called us, knowing that His mercy endures forever and He has given us the “pen of a ready writer” for reasons beyond our imaginings….
